| DMX512 is a serial digital signal which cannot be simply measured using a multimeter or voltage detector. To completely analyze a complex digital telegram like DMX512, multiple parameters must be checked. That's where our specialized DMX512 tester comes in handy. | |

The big multi-line LCD display shows several informations simultaneously making menu scrolling superflous. All parameters are shown with full names and units, so you do not have to guess the meaning. And: the tester speaks english language (display can be changed from german to english). The pocket tester comes with standard 5-pin Neutrik DMX input and DMX output. A typical dimmer input check is simple: simply connect the tester between desk and dimmer and configure the tester to receive mode. First, general protocol data are being analyzed- if everything is okay, you will be prompted with the slot count and a "OK" message- no need to dig any deeper. If you want to do so, next screen shows exact timing data, then next screen shows line level in a "good/bad" mask. The next menu displays receive data: up to 36 channels simultaneously in bargraph format, or 10 channels simultaneously in numerical format (either decimal, hexadecimal or in percentage). Next screen presents a slot flicker-finder using a MIN/MAX mask, which is resettable anytime. To modify a cue, you may freeze a received cue and modify it or create a new cue from scratch. Changing just one individual slot helps to check mirror movements or dimmer patching. Manually moving the fader up and down can be automated: on/off sequencing or auto-ramping at variable fixed speed helps checking complex systems in a fraction of time. In many cases, wrong or worn-out signal cabling causes trouble in digital transmission networks. The POCKET TESTER 3512A assists by offering a cable test function to automatically detect interruptions, shorts, and miswirings. You can select between analog testing (using test voltage) and digital testing (using data packets) to ensure trouble-free operation. Last not least the signal strength must match. A buit-in level meter helps to check the signal level.
